Question: To replace only bearings or to replace a complete rotor?
Answer: Change only bearings, of course! It’s less expensive!
Replacing of bearings is cost effective, but you should know:
- None of the manufacturers certify replacement of bearings.
- Rotor and especially its impeller wear down from use and sterilization.
- The rotor’s chuck has a finite life. A rotor where only bearings and O-rings are replaced (rebuilt rotor) might not be able to retain the bur with the same force as a replacement rotor. This could result in a bur ejection during the handpiece operation.
